Brown-Banded Cockroaches
Brown-banded cockroaches are small, light brown cockroaches distinguished by two lighter-colored bands running across their wings and abdomen. Unlike German cockroaches, which prefer kitchens and bathrooms, brown-banded cockroaches prefer warm, dry locations higher up in rooms, such as behind picture frames, inside electronics, on closet shelves, and near ceiling moldings. Males are excellent fliers, while females are broader and cannot fly. They are found throughout heated buildings and are often transported in furniture, electronics, and boxes.
Key Behaviors
Brown-banded cockroaches glue their oothecae to surfaces in hidden locations like the undersides of furniture, behind wall decorations, and inside appliances. They prefer temperatures above 80F and often inhabit bedrooms, living rooms, and offices rather than kitchens. Males fly readily when disturbed. They feed on starchy materials including wallpaper paste, book bindings, stamps, and food residues.
