Ground beetles are a large family of fast-running, nocturnal predatory beetles. They are beneficial insects that feed on pest insects and weed seeds. They enter homes accidentally, attracted by exterior lighting, and are common occasional invaders in fall.

Behavior & Habitat

Habitat: Under rocks, logs, leaf litter, and mulch outdoors; enter homes through ground-level gaps attracted by lights.
Diet: Caterpillars, aphids, slugs, weed seeds, and other ground-dwelling insects and invertebrates.
